For the ReLisa Scent of the Month - May we chose a scent that would be a bit of a pun - "Straighten your Crown"
Whilst this scent is for all the queens out there that may be struggling, we thought it would tie in well for the timing of King Charles 3 coronation.
When designing a new scent, you may think it is easy but there are so many factors that you need to take into consideration.
- What colour/colours will we use?
- Should we add a mica?
- Will glitter accentuate it?
- What type of photo can we use for it?
We decided to do some research on what colour to use, the initial plan was blue, due to it being our main brand colour and it has been a while since we had a new blue scent but we have actually opted for purple.
Purple has been a colour used by rulers for hundreds of years.
The reason purple is a royal colour is because of the rarity and expense of the dye used originally to make it which meant that only rulers could afford it!
In this day of age it is so hard to think of not being able to get anything in any colour, but originally purple dye came from the Phoenician trading city of Tyre which is now known as Lebanon.
Guess where the colour came from......
The dye was obtained from a small mollusk that was only found in the Tyre region of the Mediterranean Sea and it took thousands of them to create just one gram of Tyrian purple!
In the UK, during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, specific laws were in place called Sumptuary Laws and "Excesse of Apparel" which dictated the colours and fabrics that people were allowed to wear based on their social rank and wealth. She seemingly forbade anyone from wearing purple apart from close members of the royal family!
Who knew!
I don't know about you but I'm away to rake through my wardrobe for something purple to wear!
